Internet Fraud - Fighting the E-Crime War

Although the benefits to commerce are clear, the internet has also had the effect of globalising e-crime and presenting opportunities for organised crime gangs to profit regardless of geographic location.
Direct or indirect internet  losses to banks and merchants can, and have been, significant with new threats emerging  and counter measures being deployed in a continuously evolving arms race. A&L will show you one banks approach (and the lessons learned) to fight this arms race: Theoretically underpinned by rational choice and situational crime prevention theories, the use of attack patterns provide the ability to analyse and potentially predict the actions a criminal might undertake to defraud the bank directly or via card not present internet shopping.  Counters that increase the risk, increase the effort and reduce the reward for the fraudster can then be applied to identified 'attack pathways' in order to reduce operational losses and promote a positive customer experience
